Most cars need servicing every 10,000km or 6 months. In addition to this, there are other items that have to be looked at at specific intervals.

For example, anti-freeze and brake fluid should be changed every two years, camshaft timing belts need to be replaced usually between 80,000km and 100,000km.

A full service will pick up other faults/wear and tear that may cause expensive problems in the future.

A full service will cost around $200 and covers:

• Change oil and filter.
• Remove all wheels, check, clean and adjust brakes.
• Check CV boots, drive shafts, brake hoses and shocks.
• Check air filter, sparkplugs, tuning.
• Check HT leads, distributor, intake hoses.
• Check cooling systems, hoses, radiator/cap and coolant condition.
• Check for oil leaks.
• Check fan belts, transmission/clutch/ auto transmission.
• Top up & test battery.
• Check wipers, washers, lights, indicators, tires and pressures.
• Clean dashboard and tyres.
